Bar D Chuckwagon Suppers   If you’re in the mood for a western stage show and a hearty chuckwagon dinner, call the Bar D. Black Canyon of the Gunnison – This is a beautiful, scenic road trip!  Begin your journey by taking Hwy. 550 North through the towns of Silverton (approx. 50 miles from Durango), Ouray (approx. 70 miles from Durango), Ridgeway (approx. 80 miles from Durango) and into the town of Montrose.  In the downtown area of Montrose, you will come to the intersection of Highways 550 and 50.  Turn right on Hwy. 50 and go approximately 10 miles to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  (There will be signs for the canyon.)  This trip, one-way, will take you approximately 2 1/2 hours.

Road Trip – Our favorite motorcycle ride in Colorado is the trip from Durango to Telluride.  To begin your adventure, head north on Hwy. 550, which will take you through the towns of Silverton (approx. 50 miles from Durango), Ouray (approx. 70 miles from Durango), and Ridgeway (approx. 80 miles from Durango).  When you reach Ridgeway, head west on Hwy. 62 to Placerville, there you will pick up Hwy. 145 into Telluride.  This trip, one-way, will take you approximately 2 1/2 hours.  If you feel in need of a treat once you reach Telluride, be sure and visit “Baked In Telluride” for all of your sugar needs.

 

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory – “The Peak of Perfection in Handmade Chocolates.”  If you are a chocoholic, this is a must see, must do!  This is a local candy factory.  For information regarding a tour of the factory, you can contact the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory retail store located at 561 Main Avenue (970-259-1408) for details.  Or, if you are just interested in sampling some of the goodies, visit the retail store, which offers a selection of fine chocolates, fudge, dipped fruit, candy and caramel apples, etc. 

 

Shopping – There is no better place to shop than Historic Downtown Durango.

Walking/Bicycling Trail – There is a scenic trail that runs along the Animas River through the town of Durango.  The trail is several miles long.  You can catch the trail behind City Market (just down the street from the duplex) and follow it north (to the Iron Horse Inn) or south to the Durango Visitor’s Center.
